Article by Sharron Kennovin

As I approach the conclusion of my term as President of the Virginia Land Title Association, I find myself reflecting on all that we have accomplished together as a Board. Serving in this role has been both an honor and a privilege, and I am proud of the progress we have made on behalf of our members and our industry.

Throughout my presidency, a primary focus has been legislation and advocacy. My goal was to strengthen our understanding of legislative matters impacting the title insurance industry and to ensure our profession has a meaningful voice in those discussions. Too often, the valuable role our industry plays is misunderstood or overlooked. That is why your voice matters. Every day, title professionals witness firsthand the challenges facing property owners, consumers, and businesses. It is essential that we share those experiences with our legislators so they can make informed decisions that protect property rights and support a healthy real estate market.

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Virginia Circuit Court Clerks’ Association Convention, where I spoke about deed fraud and the growing risks it presents to property owners across the Commonwealth. We discussed practical steps Clerks can take to help identify and combat fraudulent activity, as well as ways our industry can partner with them in these efforts. I was encouraged by their engagement and willingness to collaborate. The Clerks were receptive to ideas and committed to exploring solutions that can help address this ongoing challenge.

As our industry continues to evolve, the importance of education, advocacy, and collaboration cannot be overstated. Whether through legislative engagement, fraud prevention efforts, or serving our customers with professionalism and integrity, each of us plays a vital role in protecting real property ownership in Virginia.

Thank you for your continued support of the Virginia Land Title Association and for the work you do every day. It has been a privilege to serve as your President, and I look forward to seeing the Association continue to grow and thrive in the years ahead.

Sincerely,

Sharron Kennovin
