Stephanie Campbell:
I consider ALTA Advocacy to be the most important event of the year. This is an opportunity for me to be a real advocate for my industry. ALTA does an incredible and thorough job of educating the attendees about politics, the inner workings of Washington, DC or what’s happening on “the Hill.” As an attendee, you are given a wealth of information, as well as the tools and resources to competently discuss issues and legislation that can and will affect the way we do business. You are also paired with everyone from your State to walk the Hill and share in meetings with the nation’s most important legislators. You come away from the experience, knowing that you are making a difference and that your voice is heard. If you haven’t been, you should consider attending next year. You won’t regret it!

Mary Long:
I had the privilege to attend my second ALTA Advocacy Day in May, and it is a privilege that should be on everyone’s bucket list. The beauty of our Capitol, the history, the excitement of witnessing the inner workings of our government is something that should be experienced personally. ALTA makes it possible by making sure every participant is well prepared, educated on issues specific to our industry, has the guidance needed to get around to our meetings, schedules meetings with our elected officials, provides the hand outs and printed information, and also makes sure we are well fed and have plenty of time for networking.

John Mashack:
This May I attended ALTA’s Advocacy Summit in Washington, DC for the first time and was astounded by the experience. Aside from the opportunity to learn from and network with other like-minded title professionals, it was a tremendous opportunity to spend time with others in the title industry. The first two days were packed with meetings and seminars to prepare us for advocacy day on Wednesday, where we met with our members of Congress and staff to educate and advocate for our industry. We had a very impressive turnout of Virginia members and hope to see even more next year. I highly recommend attending at least one ALTA Advocacy Summit as it is important to be a voice for the title industry. On a practical note, I would suggest a good pair of walking shoes, light-colored clothes, and to drink plenty of water.

Stephanie Vermillion:
Attending the ALTA Advocacy Summit was an eye-opening experience that not only shed light on the intricate workings of the title insurance industry but also provided valuable insights into the broader economic and political landscape. As someone who typically doesn’t delve into politics, I found the material presented to be surprisingly accessible, allowing me to actively engage in discussions and grasp the implications for our industry. From navigating regulatory changes to understanding market trends, this summit equipped me with the knowledge and confidence to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of title insurance. For any VLTA member seeking to stay ahead in our industry and broaden their understanding of its intersection with current events, attending next year’s summit is an invaluable investment.
