The first day of Spring in 2025 was last Thursday, March 20th! Virginia has certainly had its share of wintry weather throughout the State this past winter, but Spring means warmer weather and longer daylight hours! This also means that the VLTA has been hard at work preparing for and providing the 2025 Regional Education Events in Northern Virginia (held on March 18th), Charlottesville (no fooling 😊 it’s on April 1st!), and Virginia Beach on May 1st. The VLTA proudly supports local food banks in each location. Attendees are encouraged to bring canned food donations to the Regional Events. The VLTA Education and Events Committees have also already been hard at work preparing for the VLTA Convention where “Each Voice Counts on October 23-24, 2025 at the Hilton Richmond Short Pump.
January brought the VLTA Advocacy Day formerly referenced as VLTA Lobby Day or VLTA Day on the Hill. On January 22nd, members of the VLTA met that morning to begin the day with the VLTA Lobbyist James Pickral and Delegate Marcus Simon (D-Fairfax/Falls Church) to discuss the bills pertaining to our industry. VLTA provided a 2025 General Assembly Wrap Up by email on February 27th. Please refer to that Wrap Up for an in-depth overview of the bills from this General Assembly Session that pertain to our industry. Advocacy Day included visits with the representatives for each VLTA member present. It always is a great opportunity as a VLTA member and as a constituent to have face time with representatives. Our representatives truly want to meet and hear from their constituents. It is an awesome opportunity to have that one on one, face to face meeting with your representative. An opportunity that many constituents never have. After morning meetings, VLTA members were recognized by Delegate Marcus Simon from the floor of the House of Delegates.
Please consider joining VLTA next year for Advocacy Day and let your voice be heard. “Each Voice Counts.” Your voice is also important within VLTA! Please consider joining a VLTA Committee. You can see the available committees at www.vlta.org. Please reach out to the VLTA Executive Director or to any Board member (www.vlta.org) with any questions or if you would like additional information.
