The ALTA Advocacy Summit should always remain a vital part of VLTA because it ensures our voices are heard throughout our Capital. For me personally, one of the most meaningful aspects of attending is the opportunity to talk with professionals from across the country and learn about the issues they’re facing in their home states. We often discover that we’re battling many of the same challenges, and those conversations allow us to share how each of us has approached or resolved specific legislative concerns.
I also find it incredibly rewarding to build relationships with the staffers who work for our Senators and Representatives. Not only are we educating them about an industry they often know very little about, but we’re also establishing connections that will matter for years to come.
I encourage everyone to attend the Summit at some point in their career. It is truly rewarding, enlightening, and essential to the future of our industry.

Attending the ALTA Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C. continues to be a valuable experience, but one of the greatest benefits for me personally is the opportunity to build relationships with fellow Land Title Association Executive Directors from across the country. The immersive “think tank” sessions create an environment where we can openly share ideas, challenges, and innovative approaches impacting our industry and our associations. Those conversations provide tremendous value to VLTA by bringing back new perspectives, strategies, and lessons learned that can strengthen how we serve our members. Equally important, keeping our finger on the pulse of emerging industry policy and advocacy efforts ensures that VLTA remains informed, proactive, and positioned to lead. Staying connected nationally makes us stronger as an association and better prepared to advocate for the future of our profession.

Walking into Capitol Hill to represent the title industry at the 2026 ALTA Advocacy Summit was a first for me. Paired with several seasoned advocates, it quickly became clear that the title industry’s role extends far beyond the closing table. Representing our industry and speaking to congressional staffers was both a privilege and a reminder of how important our work truly is. Every day, the title industry helps protect families, strengthen the economy, and create opportunities for generational wealth and stability.
A consistent theme throughout the summit was that the title industry protects far more than transactions; it protects trust and fosters lasting relationships. Discussions focused on housing affordability, preventing money laundering within our industry and the challenges surrounding the current FinCEN targeting order, which remains entangled in litigation. There was significant conversation about how the order, as currently written, places additional burdens on the industry, ultimately increasing costs and confusion for consumers and clients due to the lack of clear guidance prior to implementation. Equally important was the recognition that regulators and industry professionals must continue working collaboratively to improve and modernize these processes outside of prolonged litigation.
The summit also underscored the importance of advocacy and collaboration across every sector of the industry. As policies around housing, privacy, and real estate finance continue to evolve, lawmakers benefit greatly from hearing directly from professionals working in all facets of the title industry.
As a first-time attendee, I left the summit feeling energized, optimistic, and appreciative of the experience. I had the opportunity to meet remarkable professionals whom I hope to continue calling friends and colleagues for years to come. I was inspired by the collaboration, innovation, and leadership within the title community and look forward to participating again in the future.

Attending ALTA Advocacy in Washington, D.C. was an incredibly impactful experience, both personally and professionally. Having the opportunity to meet directly with senators and congressional representatives reinforced just how critical it is for our industry to have a unified voice at the national level.
Engaging in meaningful conversations with policymakers allowed us to highlight the essential role title insurance professionals play in protecting property rights, ensuring transactional integrity, and safeguarding consumers from fraud and financial risk.
